An Italian man using Google Earth spotted the signs of a buried Roman villa near his home, the science journal Nature reported Wednesday.

Luca Mori, 47, from Sorbelo, noticed unusual shadings in the satellite photographs used by Google Earth when he was viewing the area around his own home. “At first I thought it was a stain on the photograph but when I zoomed in I saw that there was something under the earth,” Mori told Nature.

Archaeologists who Mori contacted surmised that the rectangular shape showing near an ancient river bed was of human origin. Officials from the National Archaeological Museum of Parma then visited the site, which is now farmland, and after finding traces of ceramic and stone, confirmed that it’s a villa from the reign of Caesar Augustus.

Google Earth is a free-of-charge stand-alone program which combines local search with satellite images. It debuted in beta form in late June. “

Lots of stuff going on at work these days. End of year kind of blitzes, I guess 🙂 A good friend took me out to lunch today and we managed to catch up on a lot of goings-on. Nice. 🙂

I’ve been checking on the stats for my online stories and it’s been nice to see that the first story was read 111 times while the second one 81 times as of right now. That’s pretty cool. New story coming up on Thursday morning.

Tonight, I’m going to a basic Hands-on Sushi class where I’ll learn how to wrap my own sushi 🙂 I’m sure it’ll be fun, but best of all, I get to eat sushi for supper! 🙂

It’s true. I *AM* arrogant.

But…

One of the things I half expected to happen this weekend was to be able to actually sleep comfortably through the night. After all, I had the bed to myself and no reason to wake up in the middle of the night – huge project migration or not. Unfortunately, such was not the case. I actually slept LESS this weekend than I have the entire time Kyle’s been home. Every night I dreamt of work, every night it took forever to fall asleep, and every morning I woke up groggy and unrested. Even last night, knowing I would have to be at work by 6:30am, I hit the hay at 10pm and just tossed and turned. Since I had given the dog a bath and knew she’d be in her cage for most of today, I allowed her to sleep in the bed with me. She, however, just moves around too damned much. Add to the fact that my neighbors were outside talking like they were in an auditorium or something until I finally got fed up and got up at midnight to slam shut the windows, and you can imagine how I felt. Finally, at 2am I put the dog in her cage stating that I needed to get at LEAST 3 hours, and re-opened the window. Can’t say it helped much as once again work invaded my thoughts and I, once again, found myself grinding my teeth as I’d been doing all weekend.

I so need this to be over…
