Kyle – for Posterity

There have been a number of small Kyle moments over the last little while that I haven’t really talked about and realized that I at least wanted to list them here so that the memories will always be available 🙂

– Chantale had given him one of my old serial-bus mice and keyboard from an old pc to play with. He loves smacking away on those keys and gets a big kick out of his mouse. Of course, the fact that some times he’ll grab the serial end of the mouse and basically take the mouse for a walk around the basement is priceless 🙂

– He chatters constantly! Seriously! Always babbling away, pointing at stuff and holding little discussions (you can tell by how he varies his sounds, rising and falling when questioning or simply stating). Absolutely precious 🙂

– Whenever he sees Chantale and I kiss, he holds his fingers to his mouth and giggles. It’s really quite adorable and is especially cute when we grab him up into a three-way hug 🙂

– He plays with Casey really well. He’ll see her bone or ball on the ground, bend down to pick it up, and then take it to her. Funny! Especially when they get in a tug-of-war over one of Casey’s frayed ropes! 🙂

– He dances and loves music! Wherever he hears it (whether he’s turning on James’ radio or switching on our stereo system and starting the CDs or turning on the television) he claps his hands and dances by moving up and down and jiggling. You just want to scoop him up and hug and kiss him! 🙂

*Happy Sigh*

God I love being a Father…

Happy Birthday!!!

My son James turned 12 today!

12!!

Wow.

I talked to him just now briefly… it was nice to hear his voice, but I really would have enjoyed giving him a big hug instead. C’est la vie.

But… 12?! Wow 🙂

Happy Birthday, Sweetie! 🙂

(we got him a bunch of books for his birthday and he loved it! The First book of The Young Wizards novels (from Kyle), Zatchabel #2 (from Melyssa), and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (from Chantale and I) 🙂 Nothing like watching his eyes sparkle when he gets new books 🙂 )

On Being a Father…

Last night, as I held Kyle in my arms, rocking him softly after having “hummed” him to sleep once his bottle of milk had been finished, I could only stare down in amazement. His peaceful face, his arms snuggling his blanket, his hands clutching the material… it was all so beautiful. I cradled him in my arms, holding him close, softly stroking his little blond curls, as I watched the rise and fall of his breath.

And my world was perfect.

A complete and fulfilling sense of “right” enveloped me in that warm darkness as my own senses stretched outwards and felt the warmth, happiness, and love that permeated his room. That sense of love and well-being continued outwards and I felt it reflected throughout all the rooms of my house and in my mind’s eye I saw the beacon of light and love that is my wife radiating that selfsame emotion outwards from herself.

I am 39 years old and there is NOTHING in my professional, freelance, or even personal life that comes anywhere near close to the pride, joy, and contentment I felt and continue to feel in the home life I lead. Chantale has continued to be my second lease on life ever since she came into my life and the joining of our little son to our home continues to be a monumental wealth of love, energy, and happiness. I am so greatful to be able to spend every single day in their presence and continue to share the most amazing to the most mundane moments – all being special because we’re together. And I love the fact that Chantale blogs as well and continues to chronicle our lives and the growth of our child so we will always continue to have memories of these sacred events that we can re-live throughout the years.

This is a post about happiness, love, pride, and gratitude. Some may think I speak too much of them and perhaps boast too much. I believe I can never speak of my love for them enough. This is not boasting, this is being blessed and realizing that I am blessed. This is my thanking the Powers that Be for helping us to create such a blissful home. This is my prayer of power that keeps this happiness in abundance.

It is not wrong to say that I am happy. Because I am, indeed, truly so.

9/11 Graphic Adaptation Report

Just as a follow-up on my post of a few weeks ago, I’ve put up my thoughts on The 9/11 Report – Graphic Adaptation by Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colon on my review blog (). The direct link is here: Review #4 of 100

More Insanity

When you stop and think about how an incident like yesterday affects SO many lives, it’s frightening to put the pieces together. You think you might be shielded, and then you start to make connections.

This shooter? He lived a couple of streets over from where one of my employees lives. In fact, my employee mentioned how he’d seen him a number of times around the area (wondering to himself what kind of a nut would dress like he did in 30 degree heat…. know we know).

The street he lived on? It’s really not that far from where my kids live or where Melyssa goes to school.

Had Chantale not left her previous employment, she would have been right across from Dawson (at Alexis Nihon) having lunch and watching the campus as she used to. Had this happened today, I would have been in the vicinity myself.

I just heard that his initial target was the metro (no report confirmation that I can link to, though). So when he parked his car and got out, he was heading to the metro but when he saw the cops (who were responding to another call) he panicked and dashed for the college. I can only imagine the carnage had he gone into the lunchtime metro crowd at Atwater…

The Day After…

You always expect these nutbars to look like freaks… and this guy definitely falls in that category.

For those of you who haven’t already seen it, here’s the CTV entry on yesterday’s shooter.

Even just losing one student was losing one too many…

Howdy Folks.

Just wanted to bring your attention to another new feed, this one for Mike Jaffe’s Blog . If you haven’t visited his website, you should take a moment to do so (http://www.jaffelifedesign.com.

Considering many folks’ thoughts on 9/11, you might find his story chilling. His recent write-up on it, though, shows a valid fortitude on moving forward: http://www.jaffelifedesign.com/blog/2006/09/11/reflections-of-911-on-911/

C’est tout. Back to the Writing Board…

BlogMikeDo

Heh. My buddy Alan posted up a Beatles video for me over on BlogMeDo.com

Gave me a good giggle and smile on this sunny Tuesday morning. I partly expected it to be “With a Little Help From My Friends” considering how helpful he says I am 🙂

I’m so glad there is such a treasure-trove of Beatles videos and films out there and that so much can be seen on YouTube 🙂
