8 hours later and we’re still going strong. Picotin given at 830am, epidural at around 10am. Chantale has been and continues to be very brave throughout this. I’m so proud of her 🙂

We’ve been at the hospital since 3am. Water seems to have broken at 1:30am. I don’t believe we’ll be sent home 🙂

We’re both running on 2 hours sleep. Oh boy… 🙂
It was supposed to be an early bedtime tonight. Both quite tired and thus decided to just lay in bed snacking on fruits and drinking water and iced tea. At 9:45pm I switched off the television and made my way into the Baby’s room just to look out the window and watch the full moon rise. What a beautiful and peaceful sight it made as it hovered there, smiling down, with wisps of clouds across its face. Chantale joined me for a bit and we just breathed in the fresh air coming in from outside and enjoyed the moment of peace. She went back to bed and I set up a few stones that needed recharging before coming downstairs to see what’s going on here on LJ. Doesn’t surprise me that many are speaking of James Doohan. I was also quite sad at the news and just realized I never called my folks to tell them. See, my mom, dad, and brother met him when he was in town back in 1986 or so during a promotional tour for the Star Trek video tapes. My folks have a nice photo of him with my mom and brother, and another one (framed) with just my dad. I’ve been wanting to borrow that picture for ages now so I can scan myself a copy.
Anyhow, for a quick briefing on those who might not know, Chantale’s appointment today went somewhat quickly and well. We did go for an NST (non-stress test) to make sure the baby was doing all right and he was. The current plan is to go back on Monday for another one followed by an ultrasound to make sure there’s plenty of amniotic fluid for him. Afterwards, another appointment on Wednesday to basically set an appointment for an induction. At least, that’s the “plan”. The baby, of course, can simply decide to step out into the world at which point we’ll just follow his lead 🙂
In other, web-related, news, I finally moved The Savage Land to a new Host. Once the updated information is propigated throughout the net, savageland.com will point to its own server. 500 Meg of space means I won’t have to worry about running out of space when uploading more Comicopia covers (I’ve already sent up the first color cover we ever did, back in issue 30 – our 6th year anniversary). The rest will now be able to go up as well. Plus, more space means more photos which is always fun. Another great part about it is that I’ve got a whole lot more control on this server including cgi, perl, ssl, ssi, frontpage extensions, and a slew of other stuff should I be inclined to use them. Also, direct access to my logs means I get to see a lot more of what the traffic is really like. All this, of course, in order to properly revamp that site into something more meaningful (meaning the writing, parenting, and SRP stuff – not just Comicopia which had a nice revamp a few months back).
Funny. I’m now ready to go back and read a bit before bed, and Chantale just joins me with hot food. She got hungry waiting for me to get back 🙂
Maybe 3 hours sleep last night. Left work at noon today ’cause Chantale was really NOT feeling well. Luckily, her mother picked her up and took her to her air-conditioned place which helped immensely. Considering the weather (currently 27 – feels like 37 – humidity at 74% – tomorrow going to 30 feeling like 44!), we agreed that she’d stay there overnight. I left after supper in order to try to relax and get some sleep. I promised I’d get some sleep. Yet, here I am at almost 11:30pm and not even ONE yawn. I can’t really say I’m wired, but I’m not tired. It’s like my own body is preparing me for Chantale’s labour! The baby hasn’t moved much today either which is not a normal sign. We’ll see how things are in the morning and take a decision there, calling either the CLSC, the Birthing Center, or both.
Right now I’ll go take a shower and try to lower my body temperature (it’s currently 85 in the BASEMENT!) and try to sleep. …
Hm. Having trouble logging in from the main page.
Went to catch a preview showing of The Island last night. What can I say about it? Well, I still like Ewan Mcgregor, and I like blow-em-up movies, but oh boy. There were SO many explosions and dizzying camera work I actually felt nauseous a couple of times. Leave part of your mind at the door, however, as there are at least 3 different scenes where you’ll have to be a lobotomy patient in order to accept them as plausible. The effects were quite good and the “Island” and “Project” were wonderfully executed. I really did have to laugh, however, at the prospect that “Obi-Wan Kenobi” who survived the Attack of the Clones is actually thrown into another such mystery where he ends up blowing up the “death star” in an almost Star-Wars-like fashion. And, he even gets to have a “bike” chase similar to Return of the Jedi but with much more damaging results! Ouch! 🙂
Considering the small turnout, I’m wondering if (a) movie viewers have just become so jaded that they’re even loathe to come out to a free screening, or (b) everyone’s expecting this film to tank. Either way, what I found particularly strange was the fact that the theatre (in this case the AMC) in NO WAY solicited our opinions on what we thought of the movie! Everyone, outside of the two security guards in the theatre watching the audience for something, acted as though it were nothing more than just another screening. (shrug).
The saddest thing about yesterday was that I left the house with the kids sleeping and I came home with the kids sleeping – thus having spent no time with them. Chantale and I, in typical fashion these days, got some cereal (it was way too late for me to have a “real” supper) and watched a couple of episodes of Sex in the City (currently season 3) before turning off the lights at midnight… just at the time Melyssa began coughing. sigh.
I’m looking forward to going home early tonight just so I can spend some time with everyone…
For two weeks in a row now, both times on a Wednesday, Chantale’s doctor had to rush out prior to seeing her due to an emergency c-section she needed to perform. And thus we’re stuck waiting once again for another hour… Plus whatever time she’ll need to catch up on whoever was in front of us. I just don’t get why we have an issue every single visit. But, as long as the actual delivery goes well, I’ll try not to complain. Much.
My in-laws are hosting a pot-luck supper thing for the women at church tonight. Chantale is here as well because the Chocolate Fondue Machine will be doing its thing 🙂 For some reason I wasn’t allowed to stay home and thus came here. Hopefully, once the horde of women begin to eat (her dad was suckered into BBQing for them) he and I can hide downstairs and watch a movie or two 🙂 In the meantime, I’m hiding out in the office, surfing and trying to find something to do. Strangely enough, sometimes the internet is boring. 🙂 (this usually happens when I’m not in the mood of surfing for anything in particular…)
eep. more arrivals. too many women…
We seem to have fallen into a state of “wait” here at home. Basically, we’re ready. All that’s left now is for the baby to come. The number of contractions Chantale has begun to feel recently has definitely increased in both intensity and number. We’re really not worried. When he decides to make his entrance, we’ll go with the flow and let it happen. It’s so inevitable that we can “feel” it in the air. In fact, a part of me really does wonder if we’ll last two more weeks! In the meantime, we’ll continue to try to rest as much as possible (not entirely an easy task considering the amount of pain she’s in – especially being unable to find a decently comfortable resting position).

’cause it sure feels like a Monday.
Had almost reached the terminal train station when I realized my neck was burning which reminded me that I didn’t put any sunscreen on my vitilago patch. I get to work and find that I’m out of coffee and that there’s no more sugar or milk in the cafeteria. I have trouble logging in and then after an anti-virus update, I loose all my favorites, desktop shortcuts, and office toolbar customizations. And there’s no recovering them.
Yup, it feels like a Thursday disguised as a Monday…
And I’m worried/ concerned about what’s going on in London today…
Well now. I got the home mail client set up for posting. I got the web mail client set up as well. I got the work mail client and the work Blackberry mail client configured too. And now, this is my online BB test.
This means what, you may be asking? Just that when the baby comes, you’ll be able to know about it from here 🙂
