A Monday-ish Tuesday

Definitely one of those mornings where I question what I’m doing being awake at the ungodly hour of 430am…

As I’m getting ready to leave for the train, the following come to light in order:
1- My battery on my Blackberry is fully drained, after ensuring it was fully charged last night
2- My watch battery is dead and seemed to have done so Friday night at 7pm (when I took it off)
3- My shirt button falls off as I’m buttoning up my shirt
4- Feel sick/ nauseous all morning long
5- I may have to miss the Home and School meeting I was looking forward to attending tomorrow night
6- I realize my debit and credit cards are still in the shirt with the missing button that I had changed out of.

And then, I remember something that makes me smile and get myself pre-sale tickets to Great Big Sea’s show in Montreal on Decemeber 3rd. Ah, happiness… and Tuesday is saved! 🙂

Heh.

Will you “Hero Up” for the Holidays? 🙂

Can’t really say they’re Xmas-y enough to be hung on the tree… but they are damned cute 🙂

Wow!

Here I was, sitting at my desk, craving something sweet and chocolatey… when out of nowhere, one of my employees comes to my desk and asks if I liked ice cream. He had bought a box of klondike ice cream bars but our fridge here can’t really keep things frozen so he was sharing.

Klondike Ice Cream Bars! SCORE! MMMMnmnmmmmmmm!!!! 🙂

Me am Very Happy! 🙂

Thanks Pavel (whom I’ve been referring to as Chekov since I hired him… although he had no knowledge of who Chekov was until another one of my developers and I explained it to him 🙂 )

Blah :(

I have seen entirely too many cats on the side of the roads these last two weeks 🙁

I used to own all manner of pets growing up. Unfortunately, when I moved out and started raising children, I had to accept the fact that there were allergies which were too dangerous to ignore and thus went furry pet-less for many, many years.

Luckily, 6 years ago we were able to get ourselves an adorable Bichon Frise and prove that Melyssa was not allergic to it. A very difficult battle (still available here on LJ) ensued but I managed to win them both (ie; keep seeing her) and they became great friends.

Yesterday, we were talking about how much her allergies have changed over the years to the point that she’s capable of tolerating cats. Now, she had very bad cat allergies which triggered excessive asthma attacks but no longer. Suddenly, I started thinking of how great it would be to hold a little kitty in my hands again… Yes, Chantale is also a little sensitive, but it’s different and possibly even controllable (when you start with a kitten).

I’ve lived too long without a cat to want to get back into raising another one, however. I know I sometimes really need some Furry-Therapy, but I’m not ready to have another pet in the house regardless of how much fun it could be.

Ah well. It’s nice to know that option is possibly *available* again…

Dreaming is free…

Last night I got the urge to bring up some old photo albums from the basement. It was fun to go back in time and re-live some of those moments when Chantale and I were first dating and remember the adventures we had as our relationship progressed. Seeing James and Melyssa as toddlers again and realizing how Charlize actually looks like Melyssa did at that age (albeit her being blonde and Melyssa having dark hair), made us both smile and tear up.

When we came upon the first photos we had taken of our house and shortly after we had moved in, we both paused to just let it all sink in. We had gone from a 5 1/2 duplex, to a House. We barely had enough furniture to properly fill it up, and the photos looked so “sparse” with just the basic necessities that we found ourselves laughing it up. What dreamers we were! With the little that we had, and the small salaries we were making, we managed to get and hang onto this great house, and slowly but surely filled it up with items/ furnishings the way we filled it with love.

We turned our House into a Home the way we still live our lives… one Dream at a time.

After knowing each other for over 12 years, being a couple for over 11 years, living together for over 10 years, and being married for 7 years (at the end of this month), it still feels like a dream. Outside of the small inconveniences/ grievances that have arisen in the last year with James, life is still a dream.

Sometimes I’m still taken aback by how deep and strong my feelings are for my wife and family. I know how lucky I am, but at the same time, there is a lot to be said for being courageous enough to Dream and to work to make the Dream a reality. And we are definitely going to continue to keep dreaming…

A funny look at Inception

Time.

There’s this wonderful scene in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country between Spock and Kirk where Spock asks, “Is it possible that we have grown so old and inflexible that we have outlived our usefulness?”

It’s a very powerful sentence that forces the men to take a good hard look at their lives and themselves and seriously consider if somewhere along the way they went from adventurers (discovering worlds and breaking new ground) to… “administratives” who follow formula and are “stuck” in their way of doing things (or hanging onto old thoughts just “because”).

That’s where my head is today.

Blog Drug!

It’s funny. I’ve been offline for probably over 2 weeks now. Of course, I don’t mean “offline” in the sense that I was completely devoid of internet (my blackberry is obviously configured for email) but offline in the sense that i wasn’t tied down to a computer or any social sites.

When we got back from our little vacation (a couple of days away to an amazing chalet near quebec city), there was absolutely NO urge to jump back online to Facebook, Twitter, LiveJournal, Library Thing, or CDN_POD! It was… liberating!

And then… going back to work this week… the urge to start up Social Scope on my Blackberry to get back into the Twitter/Facebook community was SUCH a pull I felt like I was fighting niccotine withdrawal!! LOL!!

Seriously, it was SO hard to not log in but I’ve been fighting it the entire week and it’s not so hard any more :). I guess it’s just something I had gotten used to doing. Standing around waiting for a train or an elevator and “pop” out comes the BB to see what’s going on. I’ll probably get back on again soon as it has been fun and it does kill time. But, I doubt very much I will continue to do so from home/ my pc. After all, the time I used to spend on FB is SO much better used doing some creative work! Sheesh!!

Anyhow, I’ve been wanting to write this up all week and I guess it’ll work for Hump Day :). Gotta get back to the fray now.
