Went to a private gig on Saturday night to see Invisible and Random Colour, two bands made up of friends or folks I know. I’ve never been in the back room at Clyde’s but I think it was a great locale. I had to laugh at seeing the sound guy (who both bands had been raving about). Turned out to be none other than Perry who used to be my *other* friends’ (The Black Cadillacs) sound guy for their gigs! 🙂 When I saw him, I just nodded my head and said “ah”. Yup, he’s quite talented 🙂
The show was quite lively and entertaining, the highlight (for me) being finally getting to see “Poor Dee Dee” performed. My buddy Taras knows how much I loved the lyrics when he first showed them to me and seeing it played only enhanced it.
I wasn’t able to stay for all of Random Colour’s set as I was pretty much toast by 1130pm (toast as in tired, not as in wasted – sorry, I hate bars and the prices charged for booze) and figured I’d head home and crash as opposed to crash on the way home 🙂
Of course, the main problem I always face after seeing friends playing on-stage came back full force (as expected). I see them play and it makes me want to resurrect my own band, Why Bother.
(why a problem? simple. as a father with 3 kids and a new one on the way, plus working full-time while trying to maintain a new home, running an APA and trying to keep my creative works on the go, there’s just no time to devote to ANYTHING else at the moment. ah, well, c’est la vie…)
Happiness is…
sitting around the supper table with my beautiful wife and energetic son after a wonderful Sunday meal, leisurely enjoying an incredibly-tasty home/hand-made cappuccino… 🙂
Finally got through and got my answers.
Melyssa had started a cold this week, and the recent massive fluctuations of temperate the last couple of days (heck, +20C to +5C is HUGE), had an obvious impact on her. Thus, this morning, after what sounded to her mother like bronchial coughing got bad enough quickly that she called the ambulance.
Melyssa’s reacted very positively to the treatment and is in excellent spirits (although somewhat doped up and massively chatterbox-y) and should hopefully be going home today.
And that’s it.
I just checked my voicemail message and found that Melyssa suffered another asthma attack and had to be taken to the hospital via amublance!
*calling*…
Okay! Enough! Enough with the insomnia! Enough with having had ONE full night’s rest/ sleep in the last 2 weeks!

I’ve got John Lennon’s “Watching The Wheels” on continuous loop in my brain today. As much as I love the whole song, there are a few specific lines that have really been standing out. I was going to post only those, but it would read weirdly. So, I’ll bold them instead. Maybe you can guess what’s been bouncing around..

I have had a really wonderful birthday 🙂
After my post of this morning, Chantale and I drove Kyle to his gaurdian’s and then headed out to the Ovarium. I love that place. We’ve been going there for about 8 years and never tire of it. Lying in a giant egg filled with tons of salt so that you can’t actually sink… floating in your own mind, gentle music filling your cocoon… just letting yourself go… letting everything else trying to grab a hold of your time and attention… it’s just heavenly 🙂 The fact that it started with a surprise birthday card waiting for me on my bathrobe was a romantic touch. My wife is super special that way 🙂
After that, relaxing while waiting for a most-needed massage… tranquil. wonderful. Like I told the masseuse, we’ve been needing this for a while and an hour later I can happily say that that huge knot in my shoulder blades and the incredible cramps in my calves are all gone. Happy, sleepy, and very relaxed, I drank a hot almond tea with Chantale as we continued our relaxation in one of their general rooms. Of course, before we knew it, 12:30pm rolled around and we hadn’t figured out what to do about getting food before our 1:15pm showing of Spider-man 3.
Needless to say, we ate at the theatre. Overpriced poutine from NYFries, but what can you do? When hunger strikes and you don’t want to sneak food in… 🙂 Shall I talk about the movie? Everyone will obviously have their own opinions (and lord knows I had enough jokes running through my head at some of the more obvious plot holes and plot failures). Still, it was an enjoyable 3 hours (and I really did restrain myself at the “Austin Powers Spider-Moves” scene 🙂 )
Incredible though it seemed, with only 2 activities most of the day was eaten up! Although there were still a list of places we wanted to go, there was only one that was ranked high enough to do today. And that was to head over to the local bike shop in Ile Perrot where Chantale once again spoiled me rotten by buying me a hybrid bike complete with helmet and childseat so that Kyle can join me on my bike treks! 🙂 This is the first new bike I ever got since my dad bought me my first Motobecan racing bike back when I was 12! Almost 30 years between new bikes! 🙂
Again, Chantale went all the way in trying to make my day a perfect one. Even though she knows and understands how, for me, every day with her is perfect. I have never had to “wish” on any candles since she came into my life because there’s nothing that compares to the gift I got of “her” 🙂
