Not a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood…

The Neighborhood is dark and sad today.
Our favorite neighbor has gone away.
Casey & Finnegan rush out to give hugs
As Mr. Rogers joined Mr. Dressup up above…

The children are sad,
but the Angels rejoice
…laughter and stories fill the heavens

Good-bye Fred. Thanks for the joys, smiles, and knowledge…

now you see me, now you don’t.

i’m not really here.
i’m not even really there.
i can’t say i’m nowhere
but i know i’m not everywhere
so i’ve got to be somewhere.

but, honestly… stop the world, i want to get off.

i need a break, a stop, a pause, a moment to not have to add items to my list. as though I can stand still and all those items on that list could crash to the ground one at a time while my eyes were shut.

Lee, Jeff, Alan… Comicopia? Saturday at the earliest and if I’m lucky.

no choice. juggling as fast as i can.

Work Ponderings.

I have to say something. Some of you already know this of me so my comment probably comes as no surprise. I like being the boss. 🙂

Yes, the workload is quite large and the days are jam-packed so much that I can’t ever finish everything I get every day. I have no choice but to spread my work out and hope I can get most things done.

But, being in charge really agrees with me.

I love having a team I can depend on. I love being involved in a zillion projects and not only having my say as to what goes on, but placing my mark on them, too. I find that although I may sometimes get bogged down and slightly stressed over the amount of work (ie; things left undone), I’m generally quite happy to be here. In fact, although there may have been a day or two in the last few months where I didn’t “feel” like coming in to work, it has NEVER been because I didn’t like the work. Rather, it’s been because I needed a break. I still went in, though. Having people depend on you brings with it somewhat of a motivational responsibility 🙂

One of the really nice things? Outside of some concerns over my searching for a new employee to fill a vacant position, I have not taken any work home with me in at least the last 3 months (basically since I was officially appointed).

Ok, end of babblefest. I just wanted to confirm that I acknowledge the fact that being in charge and guiding and helping employees agrees with me. 🙂 I gave my first employee review today and it went really well. Next one in 2 months! 🙂

Please Answer…

I was thinking of a poll but figured I’d rather read comments. Please take a minute and answer.

You know how sometimes you find an old jacket and there ends up being something like $20 in them? Happy times, bonus, right? You basically take that money and put it in your “regular” pool of spending cash (usually).

What if you came across an old cheque book and realize you have a bank account with tons of money in it? What would you do with it? Actually, to keep it interesting, let’s keep the amounts lower. Let’s say there’s $1000 in cash. It belongs to you. How would you spend it? Pay off bills? Take a vacation? Buy yourself something big? What if it were $5000? Finally, how different would your answers have been had this happened a year ago today?

For myself, I’m not too sure. Last year I would have probably gone with a vacation although paying off credit card bills would nag at me. This year, what with the upcoming wedding, I would be torn between putting the money towards that, or taking a better Honeymoon. Of course, the most practical part of me is simply screaming: Down Payment! Down Payment!! 🙂

Hm. I guess if I would be entitled to a selfish act, I would probably want to take an adventure vacation. Something like Rafting/ Kayaking / Canoeing in BC or something 🙂

Stuff on my Mind

Ponderings:

At Beavers this past weekend, I was once again asked if I would consider become a full-fledged Leader (as opposed to the Volunteer Leader I currently am). I replied that I had thought about it a couple of times but wasn’t sure I’d be able to devote all the necessary time to it (I am, as many of you have found out, quite a busy person. Busier than I probably should be. What the heck, it keeps me young 🙂 ). I ended off with my standard: “besides, you’re more than enough leaders, you don’t need me”. To which I was quickly informed (after a brief halleluia chorus) that a spot was opening up. I was a shocked to learn of the position, I must admit, and told them I’d really have to think about it. Again, I was told to seriously consider it as I would be great for the kids. Kind of nice to hear things like that, you know? 🙂

Baby it’s Cold out there…

Chantale started working today at Scotia Bank’s Westmount branch. I accompanied her in this AM, happy for her and also happy to have a morning travelling companion again 🙂 She’d been nervous and a little stressed about starting this morning but last night’s long chat at Second Cup (mokachino and white mokachino rock!) and then just lying in bed softly chatting while listening to Sarah Mclachlan really helped ease both of us. I dropped her off at 8:15am (she started at 8:30am) and then walked to work (from Greene + St. Cath’s to Rene Levesque + Guy Concordia). I could barely feel my legs within 2 minutes!!!! It felt like my pants were being glued onto my legs with ice!!! At the same time, though, it felt good to have an early morning fast-walk. I could easily do this every morning 🙂 It’ll help keep me in shape 🙂 I hope she has a good day and have been sending her “feel good” vibes at all times (feel free to send your own!). She’s an incredible worker and is really efficient so I have no worries about her there. Plus, her supervisor seems to be on the same wavelength as her in terms of work ethics so I see that as a big positive. I look forward to hearing about her day tonight. Hopefully she won’t be too tired tonight. That way, I can take her out to supper after work. Maybe go to Vieux Duluth and bring along a bottle of Berenger’s Founder’s Estate Chardonnay… 🙂

Wedding Stuff:

Plenty to say! Been babbling it along to everyone I spoke with today (so far) and it’s not ending! 🙂 Just have to sit down and write it all up 🙂 It’s coming, don’t worry! Oh yeah, forgot to mention in my other message that the Registry has all been taken care of, too. We have one at The Linen Chest (although they’re not ready on the internet like they originally promised to be) and at The Bay which has a great online registry! Obviously, all this is a big Wish List put together for family who asked us to do so 🙂

More later!

Love, Love, Love…

This week has been crazy/ great with Wedding Stuff. In fact, we’ve gotten through a LOT and have finalized tons. Chantale’s been great in using her last free week off to make plenty of calls in order to get things in motion. I’ve got lots to say, but just not the time tonight. But, we’ve hit upon many last-minute items: Tux, Invitations, Flowers, etc etc. There has been one huge item taken care of (and I’m sure you all can guess) – but I’m gonna leave you hanging for a bit longer until tomorrow 🙂

It’s all very exciting! 🙂 We spent a couple of hours at Second Cup on Monkland tonight just chattering away about it all. It’s wonderful having a place where the two of us can just chill out and totally relax 🙂 I am definitely the luckiest man alive to be getting married to Chantale 🙂 She is definitely an incredibly positive influence on my life. As it’s been said, when everything is right, you just “know”. Well, we both “know” 🙂 Life is Beautiful, and ours is going to be absolutely Wonderful 🙂

I can easily keep chattering away, but, since we both work tomorrow, we should get some sleep. G’night!

More Goodies

Just heard from Corporate Branding that I’ll be getting a video copy of the recent RRSP Television Commercials currently airing 🙂 Up to now I’ve been hunting it on TV in an attempt to tape copies. This will make it easier 🙂

All this after finally getting to see the other 2 french commercials while we were up north at Lac. St. Jean 🙂

Overall: Really Good, but busy Day 🙂

WE’RE IN!!! WE’RE IN!!!!!

The WORD just came down!! “Bus Stop” was APPROVED by ACTRA and given the GO!!!!! They’ll be providing us the camera and help with editing and we just have to provide them a finished film by June 1st, 2003!!!!! Step 2 is now done (Step 1 was the actual submission process approval), and next comes Step 3 (working out the details) and then step 4 (shooting the film)!!!! Yeah, Baby!!!! 🙂

For those who want to know more, here’s the info from the ACTRA Montreal Website:

With the new Member Initiated Production agreement available to encourage our members to produce their own films, what better than a film festival to showcase some of those creative juices.

ACTRA Montreal is proud to announce the first annual ACTRA Shorts competition – a short film festival for ACTRA Montreal members. How do you make an ACTRA Short? Easy. On your own, or in a team, members fill out an application, submit it with your script for approval and shoot. Finalists will be chosen from submissions and a jury will then choose a winner. Finally, to coincide with ACTRA’s 60th Anniversary celebrations next year, the shorts will be shown at the 2003 Annual General Meeting and a prize will be awarded to the winning film. It’s a great way to express yourself, have some fun and celebrate 60 years of ACTRA.

Obviously, I’ve pretty much spent the last hour Jumping for Joy all over the office!!! 🙂
