Team Canada!

Yesterday, the 2 CBC Roots Olympic Fund Jerseys I won finally arrived! They are very snazzy, warm, comfortable, and thanks to the Olympic signatures, one-of-a-kind! 🙂 I’m currently wearing the one I got signed by Mylanie Barre of the K2 500. I had also gotten a second one so Chantale could have one too. The other jersey is signed by Brian Johns of the swimming team.

It’s great to have such a piece of history and at the same time be able to contribute funds towards further Olympic Athletes! If you want to see what the jersey looks like, you can see a picture at the CBC Shop on eBay 🙂

Squeek Squeek!

Ok, this is funny. Head out to the Cheeky Squirrel Network and generate YOUR Squirrel name 🙂

I ran it for the three versions of my name and came out with:

Mike Aragona from this day forward you will also be known as: Nibbles Furrycheeks

Michele Aragona from this day forward you will also be known as: Sergeant Bignuts

SavageKnight from this day forward you will also be known as: General Crazypaws

Go try it and tell me your results 🙂 (you KNOW you want to! :> )

The General has spoken.

Picking up the pieces…

This past weekend was the first of the new School Year schedule (meaning we’re back to every other weekend as opposed to one entire week on, one week off). It was one of the best weekends we spent together, actually. I had taken Friday as a personal day in order to get some stuff done and then pick up the kids at 3:30pm from school. We came home and got changed and then headed over to the in-laws since Chantale’s Grandparents had come to town (driven down by their second son – Chantale’s dad is the first son). It was somewhat of a birthday supper as Grandpa turned 74 and we all had a nice evening.

Saturday morning I drove the kids to church as they were starting their cathechism(sp?) course. I still stand by what I’ve said in the past: I’m glad I grew up with Religion as part of our regular school class schedule. They’re going to have to go for these classes once a month for 2 and a half hours for 2 years. Only then can Melyssa take her First Communion and James his First Confirmation. When James took his First Communion, he only went to church for something like 2 months. This year, everything’s changed.

I’ll tell you what bothers me about this. For about the last 5 years now, when Chantale and I have taken the kids to church, they (and we) were ridiculed by thier mother and her boyfriend. Constantly. You see, “mother” never cared for church and never went or took the kids outside of when they were baptised. And as they grew older and she had to take a more “active” role by going to these classes in order for them to partake of the Sacraments, she did it grudgingly. The worst parts of this are that (a) the classes and actual sacraments are all done in french and (b) (and most importantly) the kids NEVER go to church outside of that. I believe once or twice they may have gone for Xmas but that’s it.

Thus, going forward, the kids exposure to church will still only come from Chantale and I and yet, for the next 2 years for James and 4 years for Melyssa, they’re going to have to attend french classes and re-learn what they already know in English. It’s hypocritical. And that’s what bothers me more than anything.

Ok, now that I’ve gotten THAT out of the way, let me continue on the good stuff 🙂 The rest of the weekend was spent helping the kids with their homework, playing games with them, and just spending wonderful family moments. Today is James 10th Birthday. Thus, this weekend he was spoiled 🙂 I gave him something like 10 new Archie digests on Friday. Saturday night I cooked him a meal he’s been dying for for months! Sunday morning we all went to Chez Cora’s for brunch (after spoiling him with gifts of clothes, books, and a Gabriel Morrissette original birthday drawing of The Boy). Sunday afternoon, my parents, Chantale’s parents, my brother, his girlfriend, my niece, and Chantale’s sister’s boyfriend came over to enjoy some snacks and Ice Cream Cake! 🙂 It was a real nice time and it was especially funny seeing Casey playing with my niece who just started walking 🙂 By the time everyone left, we were all happy and quite full 🙂

Let me say again, it was a really, really, really nice weekend.

Once they left at 7pm, I got changed, jumped on my bike, and rode around the island of N.D. Ile Perrot. When I came home, I took a relaxing hot bath by candelight. Afterwards, Chantale watched the Emmys while I uploaded more Comicopia covers and then, finally done with the day, I sat down to join her. And then, realizing the day was over… I broke down.

Come every September, I feel like I lose the kids all over again and I’m left to pick up the pieces of my little sand castle. Once the month moves on, I’m fine/better because I’m back in the flow. But it just doesn’t get any easier…

Creativity

Have you heard the news about the Pendragon adaptation of HG Wells’ War of the Worlds? Just as Cruise and Spielberg announce that they plan to do a movie, Pendragon announced that they’ve wrapped up a loyal adaptation! 🙂 For full details and some pictures, check out the article at SciFi CrowsNest.

A small aside to Comicopians, I’ve started to slowly put up more covers from our past issues (including the back cover to our latest issue #84). Once again, I have to thank Chantale for all the work she did in organizing (or rather, completely revamping!) my desk and work space. I’ve been able to put together more articles, reviews, minutes, and op pieces in the last couple of weeks than in the months prior. If this keeps up, I may actually reach the end of all open/ outstanding writing projects in a few months! 🙂

Kiss the Chef

Can you believe this was a relaxing weekend for us? I almost can’t! But, sure enough, it happened just so!

Friday night, I took Chantale to Moe’s Deli & Bar and enjoyed ourselves a great meal. Afterwards, we chilled at home with me reading and her playing Sims Bustin Out. Saturday, we basically lounged most of the day, only getting out of bed after noon! 🙂 We went biking around the island and after some cleaning up, I decided to make supper.

Musings.

Hm. Considering Chantale and I stayed in bed until noon today, it was no wonder it took me until now to realize that it is September 11th. It’s one of those things to be in such a frame of mind as to completely close oneself off to the entire world and just be wrapped up in a cocoon of our own making. Thus, we got to enjoy a day of togetherness as opposed to remembering where we were 3 years ago and what we were doing. I remember it all vividly, still, and probably will for life. Right down to the night before.

Alas, I’m not here to reminise. I came online to simply post a Fast Fiction piece that had been kicking around in my head for the last week. It changed a lot in that time. The biggest change is that it is no longer violent. Thus, it’s really a simple read much different from all the others.

Brain Patter

My brain is in a mess of turmoil. Information, data, news, and more and more and more keep going into it to the point I feel like my head is expanding (but in a not nice way). I’m just waiting for the nail that will make it explode. Ack.

In other news, Johane Matte got her first online review for HORUS from non other than Sequential Tart. You can go check it out at Fan First.

It’s nice to have been caught up on personal deadlines, but now some professional ones are causing me to quiver. ack again. As opposed to Too Much Coffee Man, I’m feeling like Too Much Information Man or Information Overload Man.

Hopefully I’ll be able to give more out next week…

Life Choices…

I’ve always said that you only know if a decision is a really big one/ life impacting if it’s very, very difficult to make.

I’m struggling with one like that right now. It’s not a negative thing, really (quite the opposite actually), but the implications and upheaval it can cause is somewhat… distressing.

It’s work related and I can’t speak more on it right now. But boy has it made my brain all jumpy this morning.

…ooouf….
