Yay! :)

I just got an email from my friend mother-in-law letting me know the good news!

“Allan, Stephanie and Rory are pleased to introduce the newest Sullivan – Rylee Dawn was born this morning at 8:28 a.m. weighing 7lbs 11 oz. (Length is still being determined)”

Yay! 🙂 As I wrote back to her, I’ve been wondering how things have been going all week and this morning I woke up wondering how long I would have to wait before calling!!! 🙂

Congratulations Stephanie! 🙂

I was recently catching up on all the Comic Urban Myths over at the Comics Should Be Good blog. I was quite interested at having reached #13 and reading about the “myth” surrounding Len Strazewski and the cancellation of the JSA book. As I read through it, it struck me as familiar. I wanted to post and point the author towards the interview I had with Len back in 1998 and then I realized something. The author WAS QUOTING MY INTERVIEW without any acknowledgement as to where he got his source. That’s the second time my interview was “internet pilfered” (the first being back on the actual DC boards and was graciously pointed out to me by Dwight W. himself).

Anyhow, for those interested, here’s the myth post in question:

I did end up posting, but nothing came of it – nor did I expect it to…

Exploding Clouds

I’ve basically been up since about 4am trying to figure out the best way to get to work today. I was shocked at the amount of snow then, and was doubly-so at 6am when I finally dragged my butt out of bed to go shovel (after breakfast, of course 🙂 ). I was out at 6:20am and was almost to the street when the city truck FINALLY came by… and blocked my access. Obviously. I felt like I just walked into the punchline of an old joke. Anyhow, I cleared it off and finally got the car out of the garage and drove to the train station. I was on the road by about 6:45am and luckily there was nowhere near the amount of traffic I expected. I got to the 20 and made my way to the Ile Perrot train station, wide-turning around a stalled car right in the center of the autoroute and around another bozo who decided she would try to stop at the red light.. halfway into the autoroute.

The rest of the trip was uneventful as I sat in the train and started Allison Baird’s The Hidden World. Wow. Am liking this right away!

Touchdown at the terminus, and it was like walking up a snowy peak as I trudged the 4+ city blocks that had NOT been touched at all by any snow removal vehicles. Butt cheeks of steel, I tell ya. Quite an adventure making my way into the building.

Lo and behold, my morning coffee actually tasted good, too! Considering the horrible luck I had with coffee yesterday, this was a much nicer start to the day. I do wonder, though, how long I’ll be able to last as I’m already starting to feel the fatigue…

Oh well. Let it snow. Better now than during the actual Xmas weekend as many folks will be driving to their visit with their families!

Thanks!

I want to thank everyone who took the time to reply to my last post and let me know just how/ when they read this LJ. It does help me understand your reading habits. At least this way I know I’m not just a figment of my own imagination, much less of yours. 🙂

I know I had something else to report, but things have been “insane” the last couple of days now. Perhaps tomorrow.

I did want to state that I managed to luck into a really gorgeous tree this year. It looked nice at the lot, but when I brought it home I realized it was a monster at 7 feet high. In fact, even the new stand we had just purchased wasn’t strong enough to hold it! I had to rush out to Rona and pick up a big sturdy one 🙂 It has a wonderful mix of “fun” ornaments (like disney and sesame street characters) with “nice” ornaments (christmas-related themes) and “traditional” ornaments (like straw-based stars, etc) along with two shades of red for the balls. All surrounded in white lights with an angel on top wearing a “father christmas” outfit. Seriously, it’s gorgeous to look at. I know I took a few pics so I should be able to upload them once they’ve been downloaded to the computer.

Last night, sitting in the dark with just the tree lights on, rocking Kyle in my lap as we watched the twinkling… it was just so peaceful and calming. At one point, when we moved to the couch, Kyle kept staring up at it and then had himself a little conversation with the Angel 🙂 Ever since he got his first tooth (that’s right, for those of you who don’t know, he got his first tooth on Saturday! Not even 4 1/2 months old yet! What an overachiever 🙂 ) he’s been in a great mood. Adam, Karine, at least now I understand what happened last Wednesday night…

Okay, back to the grind…

Reader Request

Can you guys and gals do me a favor and reply to this post? I’m really curious to see how I’m being “read” out there. Do you read me Daily? Do you have me on Weekly filter? Are you even there?

I just wonder about some of your surfing habits in regards to LJ…

A couple of words…

I finally got confirmation that the person I picked for second Quebec rep for The Shusters has been accepted. Not that I really doubted it, of course 🙂 However, the fact remains that I can at least announce it here officially. Ladies and Gentlemen, my partner-in-crime for the 2005 Shuster Nominating Panel of Judges is none other than… Francisco M. Rosa, otherwise known as 🙂 Welcome to the madhouse, amigo.

On another note, yesterday evening on the train home, I was reading through Comicopia and came across a comment made by another partner-in-crime, . I hadn’t really realized it until that moment, but Comicopia is one and a half years away from being a three-digit publication. That’s right, 100 issues. I almost fell off my seat. Amazing, don’t you think?

Who the hell ELSE would I be? I’m mean, really!

Too cool…

I was looking around specific sites today in regards to upcoming promotions, etc, and realized the Shuster Awards site (http://www.shusterawards.com) did have my bio posted for last year’s awards. Those interested in seeing it (which is slightly different from the one currently found on my fiction over at ScienceFictionFantasyHorror.com) can do so here: http://shusterawards.com/story.asp?storyID=28

Obviously, I will need to update this for the new year (as I did with the sffh site). Speaking of the Shusters, btw, there will be a new twist this year for the nominating panel. Specifically, there will be two reps in Quebec in order to ensure the francophone market has a voice. The person I picked for this position has already begun his research. I’m not sure I’m at liberty to state who it is yet, but it should be forthcoming.

In another aside, I just ran through a quick search for my name in the Google Print search engine. The results made me smile indeed 🙂 This was due to an acknowledgement in a fabulous book all Beatles fans should own 🙂 Go see the result over at: Google Books (click here)

Happiness is…

Family. That’s right. The Family I’ve built with my wife 🙂

I have to say that I’ve recently realized I’m super greatful for something else about Chantale. I am just so happy about how much she loves being a Mom. It’s true! She’s been fantastic with Kyle ever since he was born, and had always been great with James and Melyssa ever since she met them, but lately, I see it in everything she does. She loves being a mother and she seems to fill up with joy and love whenever we’re all together.

Just this past weekend we introduced the kids to Back to the Future and I’m sure you can picture all of us in the living room. Chantale nursing Kyle with Melyssa sitting next to her, James on the couch with Casey, and me in the middle on the rocking chair we use to rock Kyle prior to his bedtime. As I rocked Kyle after his feeding and Chantale made us all popcorn, I could practically feel the love coming from her as her eyes sparkled with it.

And it’s not just in those special moments, either. It’s in the way she cares, fiercely, about how the kids are doing in school and if they’re getting enough rest and/or enough exercise/playtime. It’s in how she gives so much of herself and her time to ensuring the kids’ homework and projects are done correctly and neatly. It’s in how she takes the time to surf the web with them to teach them to gather information for their work and takes the time to use the tools at our disposal (books, dictionaries, encyclopedias) to tutor them.

Heck, it’s even very apparent as we were walking around Wal-Mart last night and she went around picking stocking stuffers for all the kids, making sure to get stuff they would really enjoy and also have fun with. And she makes me laugh in that how after all that time, as we’re finally making our way back home, she takes a deep breath of relief at having finished, and suddenly slumps down sad that she forgot to get me anything. This, of course, makes me laugh as there is nothing more I could possibly want, especially after all she’s done and all she’s given.

Sweetie, you are the best gift I could ever have hoped for and the way you give of yourself to our family day after day, much less year after year, is worth more to me than anything I could possibly ever receive on “one” day of the year 🙂

As we got onto the road and I realized the time, I told her I was stopping off at St. Hubert’s for a nice hot chicken sandwich take-out for her, and I could almost see the tears forming in her eyes. After a long day with no thought for food, me taking care of Kyle and taking the time to fill her belly with one of her favorite meals, relaxed her almost as much as a pampering massage could have 🙂 Somehow, strangely enough, she doesn’t feel deserving of pampering, even to a level as small as picking up a hot meal on the go.

What a silly, selfless, loving, caring, and beautiful woman I have for a wife. 🙂
