Comics and Notes

Well, a few file issues have brought forth a delay in the distribution of Comicopia 96. Not a big deal and I’m lucky enough to have to deal with folks who understand that underneath my Superhero Mask and Costume… I’m only human. I’ll post up a note next week when they’ve hit the mailboxes. Thanks for your understanding.

I worked out the celebration cover to issue 100 with Gabriel Morrissette at lunch today. It’ll be fun, that’s for sure 🙂 He’ll be sketching through a very rough draft soon and emailing the lucky participants. So, Alan, Francisco, be ready to give me a piece using one of YOUR characters 🙂 I’ll have to stretch the rules a little for some other members (like Jay, for example) who might be more comfortable drawing someone else’s character 🙂 At any rate, the important thing about this cover will be to have non-company heroes/ villains on it. We didn’t decide what to do with the back cover yet, but I’ve got another idea brewing which brings together our +16 years of publishing 🙂 I’m hoping to get Johane Matte to help out on this one which is a little kooky and right up her alley 🙂

On another note, I have to make mention of something that I’ve been scratching my head over. For the last couple of years now, I’ve had artists shy away from working with me on certain collaborations for a variety of bizarre reasons. “I don’t want to disappoint you” being the most-often heard one. These same artists, however, have no problems giving me the occasional pieces of art I request, but when it comes to something more, they’re afraid to commit. (Oh yes, they have been mainly men… hmmm… committment-phobia running outside of female relationships as well? (snicker)).

Anyhow, bizarre as it seems, I’ve started and scrapped half a dozen projects in the last 2/3 years because the folks I’ve wanted to work with… are afraid of working with me! *shakes head in confusion*

Oh well. I guess I just have to keep trudging along… but it makes me wonder if I come across as too much of a “father figure” that these folks really need to impress! Which is really weird considering how much I praise their work already! Maybe it’s time to reverse gears? LOL! 🙂
