Blather

I haven’t had a chance to come back online since this morning, and thus am only now able to say: Happy Birthday Karine! 🙂 Also on this day, in history (selected highlights only – there’s just too many!):

1227 – The Mongol conqueror Ghengis Khan died. and facial hair fashions would never be the same!
1587 – Virginia Dare became the first child to be born on American soil of English parents. The colony that is now Roanoke Island, NC, mysteriously vanished. where’s Fox Mulder when you need him?
1774 – Merriwether Lewis, U.S. explorer was born. He was the leader of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. and had nothing to do with Martin & Lewis!
1840 – The American Society of Dental Surgeons was founded in New York City, NY. and fees haven’t stopped growing since!
1914 – The “Proclamation of Neutrality” was issued by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson. It was aimed at keeping the U.S. out of World War I. I really shouldn’t touch this one… but a part of me can’t help throw out the new banner: “let’s not join a war we didn’t start!”
1937 – The first FM radio construction permit was issued in Boston, MA. The station went on the air two years later. they couldn’t cut through all the red tape because of all those satanic messages you know… controlling the minds of youths since the first caveman dropped a rock on his foot and howled in a fascinating and new lyrical sound…
1958 – Vladimir Nabokov’s novel “Lolita” was published. and millions of men suddenly wondered who was spying on them
1966 – The first pictures of earth taken from moon orbit were sent back to the U.S. but they had to be returned due to overexposure
1982 – The longest baseball game played at Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL, went 21 innings before the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Cubs 2-1. and another 10 innings before the audience woke up and went home
1990 – The first shots were fired by the U.S. in the Persian Gulf Crisis when a U.S. frigate fired rounds across the bow of an Iraqi oil tanker. I was saying…
1997 – Patrick Swayze received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. and hasn’t been seen since!
2004 – Donald Trump unveiled his board game (TRUMP the Game) where players bid on real estate, buy big ticket items and make billion-dollar business deals. but only multi-millionaires could afford to purchase it!

And now, the best part of it, Music History! Today in Beatles History:
1962 – Ringo Starr made his first appearance as a Beatle at a Cavern Club show.

Today in Elvis Presley History:
1956 – The original version of “Hound Dog,” by Big Mama Thornton, was released.
1960 – In Dallas, TX, Elvis Presley’s film “G.I. Blues” had a sneak preview.
1965 – Peter Noone (Herman’s Hermits) interview Elvis Presley for the “New Musical Express.”
1973 – The album “Elvis” hit #52 in the U.S.

Make yours memorable!
