Bed

Here I thought the fact that it was so difficult to stay in bed this morning was a good enough indication that I should get up. After all, what with cars, vans, and trucks driving past the house from 4am through 5:30am, there was NO way I was able to be comfortable and sleep. Why the hell was there so much traffic at 4am?!?!!

Of course, I should have stayed in bed. That’s the kind of day it’s shaping up to be.

Yesterday. Now yesterday was a morning that just could NOT get started. It was probably the most miserable-starting day in my life. Until, of course, Chantale woke up. We got to work late, but with smiles on our faces πŸ™‚

And then, work ended up being good. Busy, and crazy, but good. After work was nice and we even got home early. AND, we finally tried out our new BBQ. Mmmm… chicken breasts marinated in BBQ, Teryaki, and Sun-dried-tomato sauces… with a nice mushroom risotto and a fresh bottle of Berenger RosΓ© wine…. mmmm πŸ™‚

*sigh* if today could only be HALF as good…

Getting Better

Well, that seemed to have actually worked πŸ™‚

Hex lifted for now, hopefully it’ll last, too! πŸ™‚

Had lunch with Thorvald/Wrath of God and caught up on life in general. Haven’t seen him in 7 years and it was nice to touch base πŸ™‚ He’s still as bloody tall as I remember him!! πŸ™‚

Btw, , we’re having a Picasso’s GT this Friday since he’s in town πŸ™‚ I can dump some old Comicopias on him to take back to Calgary πŸ™‚ don’t know if you can make it to town, but if so, it would be a trip πŸ™‚ , you know you’re welcome to join us as well if you’re inclined for some Picasso’s food πŸ™‚

We’ll be there around 8pm.

StatsDay

What a crazy day!

I came in this morning thinking “Oh, wow, it’s already Friday!” as in, truthfully, the week has flown by. I can barely believe it. We’ve been so busy running to and fro and fro and to that we didn’t see the week go by. I’m glad the kids have been having a great time at the DDO Day Camp (although day one was rough). But, I’m also a little sad that I couldn’t have spent as much time with them as I would have liked. Heck, their being or not being at camp wouldn’t have made a difference here. It’s all about work. At any rate, we’ve enjoyed really wonderful family suppers all week, so at least our nights have ended on a happy note.

I’m glad I took yesterday morning off. We all managed to sleep in an extra hour and it helped a lot. I drove the kids to camp while Chantale slept in and then I came back home and woke her up so I could take her to work. We eventually made it out the door (smirk) and off to work. After dropping her off, I drove the car to Cedar Park train station. The train wasn’t due for another hour so I decided to walk around a bit and see what bus routes came close-by. I could have taken the 211 to Lionel Groulx metro but… after seeing it crowded I decided I’d rather stay outside, read, and wait for the train. πŸ™‚

I’m currently devouring (good choice of word! πŸ™‚ ) “Pandora” by Anne Rice. I haven’t been as enraptured by a Vampire Chronicle book since about Lestat and Queen of the Damned. In fact, seeing as I’m almost finished, I’ll probably go back and re-read those two books. There’s nothing like a good Chronicle book plus music like The Specimen and/or Gene Loves Jezebel to put me in the proper frame of gothic mind πŸ™‚

But, I digress. Today is insane and, being the first of the month, it means I’m busy running Stats on our web sites and preparing a slew of reports. It’s going better than it has in a long time, but it’s also helping the day zoom even faster. Oh well. That’ll bring me closer to the end of the day. I’m finishing at 3:30 today so I can catch the 3:45 train to enable me to get to Pointe Claire for my 5pm hair cut πŸ™‚ Realize. We’re in August. 29 days left before the Wedding. Oh my. πŸ™‚

Family Aggravations

I’m pissed.

I just called my brother to wish him a happy 31st birthday. He took the week off so I chatted with him at home. After getting caught up on the formalities, I asked if a decision was made in regards to Alexia’s baptism. He didn’t hear any news yet and is waiting for confirmation for either 12pm or 3pm. The Baptism date? 6 days before my Wedding.

This alone was a minor inconvenience as it is the weekend before the Wedding and Chantale and I will be quite busy taking care of last-minute details. Not to mention that some out of town family will begin arriving. And that, as our last weekend alone together before the event, we were going out of town. But, hey, that’s ok. Family is family after all. I figured I could get the kids to come along for the ceremony and bring them back afterwards – no reason their mother should mind.

So what’s the issue? His wife has a big, fat, cat. Thus, his house has big, fat, cat-hairs all over the place. My daughter has big, fat, cat allergies AND big, fat, ASTHMA. Chantale has cat allergies, too. My brother will be holding the reception at his house after the ceremony. Or rather, it will be in the house if the weather is bad. Otherwise it’ll be outside.

So what’s the problem? He’s upset that we’ll only be going to the ceremony and not the reception, asking if we could simply not bring the kids along. “Are you saying the reception is more important than the ceremony?” I asked. He replies in the negative but states that it’s all part of the “whole thing”. I reiterate that I feel it’s important for my kids to see their cousin being Baptized. If he truly cared about the ceremony, he would understand that.

But, he has no true concept or understanding of what it means to suffer with asthma or allergies. He honestly believes taking a Seldane prior to the event will help. I try to explain that Hay Fever is NOT the same as Asthma or animal allergies. I explain as well that the last time Chantale and I went over and we were in the house, her eyes and face swelled up for 3 days afterwards. And considering we’re getting married a few days later, there’s NO way I want to risk that!! Heck, the last time I had to take Melyssa to the hospital for oxygen was New Year’s Eve. And THAT was simply because when we all gathered at my parents for supper, Melyssa insisted on playing, hugging, and sitting on my brother and his wife who was wearing a woolen sweater. Imagine that. How much big, fat, cat hair do you think was on their clothes? He just doesn’t get it.

Another thing that’s upsetting me right now is that he attempts to come across as a martyr. Alexia has been suffering colic or colic-y problems for months now. He’s lamenting all the troubles they’re going through and how difficult it is to care for a child who’s constantly screaming/ crying, etc, etc, as if *I* have no idea what that means. You think it’s rough holding a baby suffering from severe cramps/ colic and not being able to help? Try holding a baby and child who CAN’T FUCKING BREATHE and is weak from the effort of trying and succeeding only in coughing. Try holding a child who’s listless and pale as a ghost while trying to gently rock them and give them oxygen. Try holding a baby who doesn’t understand WHY they can’t breathe without showing them you’re panicing while you’re attempting to console them. Colic goes away. In a few months they’re not going to be worried about what Alexia does or doesn’t eat. I live with one side-thought on what effect, if any, the actions I undertake will have on my daughter. I don’t panic because I know how to control it. But that doesn’t mean the thought isn’t there.

Ignorance pisses me off to no end. Especially when no attempt is made to destroy the ignorance with knowledge.

*yawn*

I’m tired.

Did the morning go through already? sheesh. Can I go home now? …

It looks like it’s beautiful outside. Would be nice to be in a pool…

Last week of the month already… time for a new train pass…

Hey, we finished cutting the lawn last night! Can you believe… 15 full garbage bags! Yowtch!! That’s a lot of grass!!!

I have 6 tickets to tomorrow night’s Impact game at Claude Robillard but I can’t go. Anyone want them? Free. Just come by and pick them up.

I guess I’m just rambling… could use a coffee but the water in the building is on the fritz due to the construction on the streets. ick.

So Long, Bob…

From Yahoo News: LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Bob Hope (news), who combined perfect timing with classic, self-mocking gags to become America’s beloved court jester, died peacefully on Sunday at age 100 surrounded by the audience he loved most — his family.

“You could not have asked for a more peaceful … death,” daughter Linda Hope told reporters just after the announcement on Monday that her father had died of pneumonia at his Los Angeles home.

“I can’t tell you how beautiful and serene and peaceful it was. The fact that there was a little audience around, even though it was family, warmed dad’s heart.”

She added that the comedian famed for his one-liners had no last words. “He left us with a smile on his face and no really last words. He gave us each a kiss and that was it.”

Hope is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dolores Hope, two sons Anthony and Kelly, two daughters, Linda Hope and Nora Somers, and four grandchildren. Linda Hope said the burial would be private but added that it was the subject of one of her father’s last jokes.

“My mother has been saying to him ‘Bob where do you want to be buried?’ and his response was ‘Surprise me.”‘

Linda Hope added that a public memorial service would be planned for Aug. 27, along with a special tribute for Hope at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the sponsor of the Emmys.

It’s difficult not to think of George Burns at this time. I remember reading something shortly after he passed away where it was said that there was no reason to live to 101 since, as an ultimate showman, how could he top living to 100 (smile)

Well, the world is sad, but the Heavens are all laughing again…

Protests and Updates

Had to detour my walk to work this morning as I got off the Train since due to the protestors demonstrating against the WTO meeting at the Sheraton. The cops had blocked off quite a large section of downtown and were in the process or asking them to disperse. I’ve seen a lot of cops around town before, as well as a number of demonstrators. This, however, had to be the biggest one so far for me. Police, Riot Gear, Military Personnel. Sheesh.

Shows how much I follow politics, I don’t even know what the protest is against the WTO. Passed about a dozen camera news crews but they were all quite busy, obviously πŸ™‚

——-

We started mowing our lawn yesterday! It is SO long and there is SO much of it… that after 3 hours we’ve only gotten through half, while having filled 4.5 garbage bags already. Yow. Still, it looks great so there’s a definite sense of accomplishment πŸ™‚

Of course, all this will make it easier and more fun when we fire up …. the new BBQ!! πŸ™‚ At Chantale’s shower this weekend, everyone had pitched together to get us a new BBQ plus propane tank plus tools!! πŸ™‚ Very nice indeed, and quite touching. Totally unexpected but very much appreciated. We even managed to put it together that same night. Lots of screws but, again, a sense of accomplishment when done. Heck, everyone at church was quite impressed with that bit of news yesterday as the commentaries came out about some of them still waiting on husbands to put them together, or taking so long, or even paying someone to do it! πŸ™‚ Chantale and I work well together, what can I say? πŸ™‚

——-

Kids are with us this week and it began with dropping them off at the D.D.O. Day Camp πŸ™‚ It’ll be a bit more difficult for Chantale this week as she is the designated driver. Meaning, we have to get up early to get them ready, hop in the car to drive to D.D.O. to drop them off, drive to the train to drop ME off, and then she heads off to work. Gotta get her some coffee cash πŸ™‚ Tonight, she goes to pick them up while I take the train to St. Anne’s and begin walking home. They’ll pick me up on their way home somewhere along the road πŸ™‚

——-

Ok, gotta get cracking. It’s going to be a very busy day made up of a lot of high-level meetings I need to prepare for. So, gotta get my material revised and reviewed.
