Hump Day!

Here we are, the middle of the week. It seems that I will be offline for at least the next 4 days. This does not mean that I will not continue to write up FF pieces, but it does mean that they will not appear on the day they’re created. I’ll explain the offline reasons later this afternoon.

For now, for those of you who’ve been waiting, here’s today’s Fast Fiction piece: Gun Solution

The gun felt cool in Frank’s hands. He rubbed the barrel on his cheeks, enjoying the sensation of cold metal on warm flesh. He gripped the handle tightly and felt its power. He relaxed his grip to let blood flow in his fingers and then gripped it tightly once more. He closed his eyes and gritted his teeth as he scraped the trigger on his forehead, marveling at how comfortable and natural the gun felt.

β€œAn extension of my hand,” he whispered to himself. β€œAnother part of me that I can control and use for work or play.”

You can drink from a glass but then you can easily toss it aside. A gun, once you feel its weight and power in your hands, is practically impossible to lay down. A gun has no feelings yet evokes powerful ones in people. You can turn to a gun to help you solve problems.

Frank traced his face with the tip of the gun and finally let it rest right between his eyes. He held it there forcefully and pulled the trigger. Click. No bang.

β€œOne more day to face my problems,” he said half-heartedly.

See? That’s nice :)

One of the “simple secrets of a happy family” from Parents magazine has this little point:

Get a pet. An animal offers unconditional love, trust, and acceptance. Whether your child has just had a bad day or is facing a real crisis, Rover can make it all seem better. Family members who are under stress are 22 percent more likely to feel hopeful if there’s an animal in their life.

So true, so true… πŸ™‚

Tuesday’s Fiction

Ok, this one’s a little on the gross side. You’ve been warned. Today’s Fast Fiction: The Winner

Distracting Strangestgirl :)

Ok, trying to continue a strangestgirl-made meme:

What do you hope your last thought is before you die?

What do you hope it *isn’t*?

My answers:
1) Be seeing you!
2) Oh shit!

:>

Insomnia again???

Well, whaddaya know? You’d think all that exercise last night would enable me to relax enough to sleep peacefully. Nope. Lights out at 11pm since I knew I was getting up early. 3am came around and I waved. 3:41am came around and I wondered che pasa? 5:00am came around and so did the bloody crows/black birds outside. 5:30am came around and I realized I should just shut my windows to block out the noise!! 5:45am came around and I figured it was time to get up. [shrug]. Maybe tonight I’ll just keep the windows closed – block out the sounds… I don’t want to have to start sleeping with earplugs!!! ack.

Oh well. Hazelnut coffee beside my keyboard, nice aroma to wake me up. Paperwork to do today. Bleah. Chasing people is not enjoyable. I guess everyone hates paperwork as much as I do πŸ™‚

Nice Evening…

Yup. Considering I wasn’t too sure what I was gonna do tonight, it ended up being a nice one. I got home somewhat early (5:30pm) and grabbed myself a little something to eat. I sat down at my computer, food to the left of me, Enya and Celtic music behind me, and finished off the Church Newsletter. Once that was done, I decided to take the bike out and see how it ran. Nice to see that those few years of abandonment didn’t wreck it πŸ™‚ Had a nice ride to the bike shop where I pumped the tires up properly and then came back. Since I was already sweaty, I worked out a bit and then jumped into the shower.

You know it’s too bloody hot and humid when you step out of a cold shower feeling completely refreshed… and begin to sweat before you even get out of the bathroom. sheesh. Anyhow, I poured myself an ice-cold ice-tea (that’s Brisk baby!) and called up Chantale. Half an hour later and I’m wondering what the long distance bills are gonna end up being πŸ™‚

But, whatever. It’s worth it. I do so miss her… sigh. A few more days to go.

Tell me why…

I have to admit that the hardest part of Fast Fiction is keeping it under 200 words. As seen during last year’s NaNoWriMo challenge, I have no problems writing quickly and a LOT. It’s been quite an experience already to type out the Fiction and then slowly strip away all the “fat” while retaining the “juicy meat” of the story. Maybe from now on I’ll start to keep both versions just for comparison’s sake.

At any rate, here’s today’s FF: I Hate Mondays

A TRUE Knighted WebMaster!! :)

Silent Night

I don’t remember the house ever being so quiet before… Everything’s dark, sombre, rain outside falling gently… it’s peaceful in a way, but mainly lonely. I checked the kids rooms to make sure the windows were closed so no rain could fall in, and just took a moment to look about, breathe in their memories, and just feel them again. sigh.

Wasn’t in much of a mood to do anything (really did not feel like biking in the rain) so I worked out a little bit and worked up an appetite πŸ™‚ Spicy Italian cheese, warm italian buns, and ice cold Tornado Sangrila. Lights on low, Fellowship of the Ring on the DVD. Ah. πŸ™‚

So what am I doing here? Just sharing I guess πŸ™‚ I also don’t remember posting as many times as I have today πŸ™‚

Ciao!
