Attention Canadian Schools

This is a message to all those who are involved in one way or another with the Canadian School System. My good friend, artist Gabriel Morrissette, along with a few other artists, has been working with JackFruit Press on a series of books on the bios of our Prime Ministers. These books are written in a very easy style and filled with great pictures to highlight certain points. It’s a kind of book that I have personally found sorely lacking in schools. I’ll be bringing this matter to the attention of my kids school but decided to also point out the series here on LJ.

From their site: These books are both page-turners and powerful learning tools because…

  • – they are vivid and balanced accounts of the lives and times of Canadian Prime Ministers
  • – they have been thoroughly researched to ensure historical accuracy
  • – each page is amply illustrated with original drawings created from factual accounts and source documents
  • – several relevant period objects and artifacts are illustrated and explained
  • – a cheeky beaver character provides off-the-cuff commentaries about issues relating to the period as well as each Prime Minister’s own personal triumphs and tragedies
  • – special social issues boxes discuss key topics and problems related to the story
  • – each event illustrated is precisely situated in time and space and graphically explained with immediacy and relevance
  • – illustrated time-line charts depicting key events taking place in Canada and the world during each Prime Minister’s life
  • – a continuously updated website provides additional information about people, events and issues relating to the story

Right now, I know that the Sir John A. Macdonald book (subtitled The Rascal Who Build Canada) is available as is the Jean Chretien one (subtitled The Little Scrapper Who Made it to the Top) are available with others coming soon. Their website unfortunately doesn’t have any info on Chretien but I have a copy of the actual book so I know it’s available 🙂 Also, the Diefenbaker book will now be drawn by Gabriel as well (they’ve also given him Trudeau to do).

If you have a minute, head on over and take a look: http://www.jackfruitpress.com/books.html
You can also see a small preview of the Macdonald book
